You can only get your licence via a registered training organisation (RTO). The RTO may be a private company or a government TAFE.
At the RTO you must pass the requirements of the unit of competency TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck. Training will be both theory and practical. The final test will be given using the national assessment instrument (NAI). It has three parts being Knowledge, Calculations, and Performance. A WorkSafe/Workcover approved assessor will conduct the test.
The forklift licence is national and can be used anywhere in Australia.
The forklift licence comes in the form of a picture ID similar to a driving licence.
Elements in the Forklift Truck unit of competency are:
Element 1 – Plan work/task
Element 2 – Prepare for work/task
Element 3 – Perform work/task
Element 4 – Pack Up
